Concrete is a popular driveway surfacing material. It’s well suited for any size or condition of driveway. Many people install concrete driveways because they’re durable. If a concrete driveway is laid and taken care of appropriately, it can previous for at least 30 years.
Cement driveways are also relatively low maintenance. Many professionals advise that you coat your concrete in a sealer. This isn’t essential, but it will keep carefully the driveway in good shape and prolong its life. This sealer is easy to apply and needs reapplying about once every 2 yrs, or whenever the driveway begins showing signs or symptoms of deterioration. Cement driveways also need periodic washing and sweeping.
Cement driveways are also popular because they can be customised. Different dyes can be found to change the colour of concrete to suit its surroundings. Cement can be used to make style imprinted driveways, which are often unique and attractive.
Cement driveways do have downsides. They are inclined to cracking, especially when it’s very hot or chilly or they’re under extreme pressure. Cracks in concrete are difficult to correct. Although they can be stuffed in, this often leaves a driveway looking patchy and mismatched. The ultimate way to repair a concrete driveway is to replace it, which can be expensive.

Aldgate is an area in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets and partly the City of London. It was the eastern-most gateway through the London Wall leading from the City of London to Whitechapel and the East End of London. It gave its name to a City ward bounded by White Kennet Street towards the north and Crutched Friars in the south.
The district’s name was initially recorded in 1052 as ‘East gate’, but became Alegate by 1108. During the 16th century, John Stow derived the name from ‘Old Gate’. But Henry Harben, writing in 1918, stated that this was wrong and that documents show another variation written before 1486-7. Other meanings include ‘Ale Gate’, connected with an ale-house or ‘All Gate’, which means the gate was free to all.
It is thought that the gate at Aldgate spanned the road to Colchester in the Roman period, when London Wall was constructed. The gateway stood in the corner of the modern Duke’s palace on the east side of the city. It was rebuilt in between 1108 and 1147, and once more in 1215. It was reconstructed totally between 1607 and 1609 in a more classical style. As the other London gates, Aldgate was chained in 1377 because of concerns about attacks from the French. The gate was finally removed in 1761 and temporarily re-erected in Bethnal Green.
